Paper: elevational ranges of montane birds and the impacts of deforestation

Birds, and other biodiversity, will surely be impacted by climate change. These impacts could be even worse than expected due to the present habitat loss and degradation. Montane birds will be severely affected by climate change, and we show that their ranges are currently being affected by deforestation. Through extensive fieldwork on altitudinal transects on the Western Andes of Colombia, we have shown that montane birds don’t necessarily move upslope if enough forest is available, but their ranges shrink in response to lowland deforestation.
